With the festival fast approaching, it is the prime opportunity to explore Edinburgh and what is around this beautiful city! There are the classic tourist spots that are a must go to – The Castle, Royal Mile and of course Mimi’s but what else is there surrounding us?
With Mimi’s being in three prime locations, Leith, Canongate, Corstorphine and for during the festival only, our Cake Cabin will be in George Square, we know there is more out there to be explored! There is also a wide selection of things to keep you occupied inside on the odd occasion it rains in Scotland – I know, it’s unheard of here!
So, let us take your through our perfect day in our neighbourhoods, starting with - Leith!
Breakfast at Mimi's: First up is Mimi’s Bakehouse at the Shore, there is always a wide variety of activity going on so after a scrummy breakfast with us you will be ready to go explore what Leith has to offer. Our bacon french toast is always a good choice or our delicious beforenoon tea if you are in at a weekend, for a proper treat!
The Royal Yacht Britannia: Next up, the number one tourist attraction according to Trip Advisor - The Royal Yacht Britannia at Ocean Terminal. This is the perfect way to see how Royalty went on holiday and experience firsthand what it would have been like to be on board the Queen’s yacht before she was decommissioned in 1997. There is also a very yummy fudge shop on board, if you get peckish going round.
Shopping and Local Markets: Whilst at Ocean Terminal and you fancy some retail therapy then do browse the shops, Ness always has some lovely tartan goodies in. If you are visiting on a Saturday, be sure to check out the Leith market held beside Commercial Quay. Here you will see a selection of local companies and will get to try some Scottish treats.
Water of Leith: On a sunny day in Leith you can also take advantage of the peaceful Water of Leith Walkway, this will take you on a walk through the city and you can stop off at the picture perfect Dean Village. This is a prime spot to take in the serenity in the middle of the hustle and bustle of Scotland’s capital.
Supper at the Shore: If you’re Mimi’s breakfast has worn off, why not head back to Leith where there is a variety of restaurants to choose from. For a modern take on traditional ‘Pub grub’ we would recommend Teuchters Landing, The King’s Wark or The Roseleaf, all just a short walk from Mimi's.
These of course are only some of the attractions going on around Mimi’s Leith, if you have any more suggestions please do comment them below and share the local love!
Next stop - George Square for our temporary home for the busiest month of the year!
Love, Gillian x
