1,000 TripAdvisor Reviews

We are proud to announce we have reached our 1,000th TripAdvisor review! This comes almost five and a half years since Mimi's opened its doors for the first time. So we thought we would take a wee trip down memory lane and give you the story of Mimi's through the medium of TripAdvisor reviews :)

Born from the life-long dream of Michelle Phillips (AKA Mimi), the Bakehouse faced an uncertain start with many previous businesses failing at 63 The Shore. However, a successful business model, strong family relationships and delicious cakes ensured that Mimi's was an instant hit. Michelle and her daughter Gemma, using top secret family recipes, taught a team of bakers how to prepare classics such as caramel shortbread and Victoria Sponge the Mimi’s way. In the first few weeks, Mimi’s was already a considerable presence on TripAdvisor with one customer commenting ‘a star is born’ and another exclaiming ‘at last - home bakes that taste like home bakes!’
With growing queues and fully booked weekends, the family bought the vacant property next door in 2012. Mimi’s also began to expand across Edinburgh in 2013 with the opening of Mimi’s Picnic Parlour (now Mimi’s Little Bakehouse) on the historic Royal Mile. As a takeaway version of its big sister, the Little Bakehouse has been reviewed as ‘the perfect cake and coffee pitstop’ with others commenting that ‘the best things come in small packages’. Mimi’s Cake Cabin, another small package, also appears regularly at the Edinburgh Christmas Market with seasonal twists on our favourite cakes and scones and ‘hot chocolate combos to die for’.

As a result of becoming a firm favourite with the locals and tourists, we have been winning the TripAdvisor Certificate of Excellence every year since 2012 and have earned a place in the TripAdvisor Hall of Fame, a true honour! Mimi’s has also been featured in an official TripAdvisor guide, ‘3 Days in Edinburgh’. Alongside a growing TripAdvisor presence, over the years we have developed a sizeable social media following on Instagram and Facebook with 6K and 17.6K followers, respectively.
Mimi's was very much in the spotlight in 2015, winning some prestigious awards including the Scottish Craft Baker of the Year and Visit Scotland’s Best Casual Dining in Scotland Award. The Bakehouse has been described on TripAdvisor as 'an atmospheric eatery', 'beautiful inside', 'quirky' and 'a great relaxed atmosphere'. Following our Scottish Craft Baker success, we were delighted when Mimi was offered membership of the Scottish Bakers Association. We are in contention for the Scottish Craft Baker of the Year again this year with the award ceremony taking place next week, fingers crossed!
So far, 2016 has been a fruitful year for us. After petitioning to get planning permission, we successfully opened our Corstorphine branch in February, which has been considered ‘a great addition to the area’ and ‘just as good as The Shore’. We are also rebranding the Picnic Parlour to ‘Little Bakehouse’ and developing a wide range of party packages and private function possibilities. On selected nights over summer we will be launching ‘Mimi’s ’til Midnight’, featuring cocktails and a specially designed menu. Over the years Mimi's has grown from a staff of six to a staff of seventy two -- a number that is just as impressive as our TripAdvisor reviews.
It only seems fitting to end with our 1000th TripAdvisor review, which has been the icing on the cake to a successful journey (so far).
Let's see what the future holds!

Love Rebecca x
